Karen had one of the most impressive instruments that has ever been heard in pop music. Recreating Richard's arrangements is easy enough the voice? No so much.
This young lady is nice enough not a particularly good voice and isn't even remotely close to Karen's.
But a nice shout out for Karen. It reminds us that there will likely never be another at this caliper. The funny thing is Karen considered herself a drummer not a singer.
Follow Ups:
I disagree. Tori Holub's voice was indeed "even close" to KC's, while I acknowledge that Karen Carpenter's vocal will never be exactly matched or equaled. I can only suggest that anyone interested, watch and listen to the video, and also watch the Wings of Pegasus video (link below) that examines her vocal performance in great detail, as well as other aspects of the recording and performance, and decide for yourself.
No she is not. It is not a particularly good instrument. Her delivery is maudlin, insipid.
Beyond all of Karen's stunning technical abilities her true talent was the emotion. Even the upbeat songs the sorrow, angst, longing is quite clear. When the material is sad? It's overwhelming.
There will never be another Karen Carpenter. This young lady is not even remotely close.
The problem with YouTube, etc. is people with limited talent are elevated to great heights because they get 'likes' they have 'followers'.. I see posts around here all of the time that fall in to this category when in reality what is on display is average at best. True talent, a talent like Karen's comes along once every couple of generations if that.
It is clear this woman adores Karen and was trying to create a tribute and in that effort I suppose she has succeeded. But why would I want to listen to this when I can have the real thing? Life is way too short. Tribute bands, artists, etc. in most cases are a waste of time.
You're entitled to your opinion. It differs from mine, and many others in this thread. I'm just an audiophile and classical guitarist who reads music. That doesn't make me an expert, but I've got a pretty good ear, with an informed opinion. --Again, I suggest those who haven't watched and listened to it, do so, as well as watch the other video link I referenced, and come to your own, singular verdict. That's all any of us has.
