Can't even find a simple fuse for one of my subs. I have this Acoustic Research 8" sub for almost 20 years, I use it in the garage, I am amazed it has been trouble free for all these years. A few days ago it just wouldn't turn on so I checked the fuse, it looks good, but my meter says its open.
Its a 5x20mm 3amp 250v. After searching my stash, I could not find any replacement. The only local electronic supply shop is closed for the long weekend, Best Buy has none, looks like maybe Walmart might have something usable. Going to check.
Follow Ups:
Last week I went to the local chain store that took over for RS up here in Lower Canukistan looking for some bananas or pins connecters for speaker cables I wanted to make. The clerk didn't know what I was taking about, but eventually caught on and then showed me a package of alligator clips.
at least in my area. Saves me gas and money.
...you need, then email me w/ your phone# and we'll work out the details...
(It sure is nice when an opportunity to utilize computer chip/internet [which of course begat this site], this site and SatCom technology, respectively, for the purpose of helping humankind/one another presents itself :)

Are they 5x20mm fuses?
They are not marked as such.

5 x 20 mm is more of an ex-US and automotive fuse size (historically) -- thus the 'auto parts store' suggestion :)
all the best,

Probably not the best quality, but the values are correct so it will do until I can order some audiophile ones.
...was just a little late... ;)
Also, my apologies for the "super-sized" pic (taken with my phone); I didn't realize it would look THAT big on screen, lol. For future reference I suppose pic attachments that accompany our messages here can be resized to reduce data/bandwidth consumption if not aesthetic purposes?...

...you can have Mouser or Digikey send you a several lifetimes supply of all the popular sizes and flavors.
Try your local Ace,True Value or Do It Best hardware store. Locally owned and all carry fuses and a few other cables and connectors.
I forgot my disclaimer. I work at the local Ace store and was a Shack manager along time ago.
Indeed. A convenient source of parts for all types of projects.

... I couldn't find anybody who recognized the term "slow blow."

I too miss Radio Shack. In addition to poor management I suspect the younger generation's lack of interest in DIY projects helped seal their fate.
Think Raspberry Pi, "coding", 3D printing, and "maker spaces"...
all the best,

I miss Radio Shack too. I considered them to be the 7-Eleven of electronic parts. They weren't cheap but they were convenient if you needed something now!
You can often find fuses at auto parts stores, maybe HomeDepot or Lowes.
Remember Lafayette Radio?
At least by the time I was frequenting such emporia (1970s) LRE was nicer than R/S. We had both in nearby Glen Burnie, MD -- but LRE was apparently already in its death throes due to poor inventory control and (I have read -- on the Internet, of course :p --) some poor business decisions (e.g., being very late to the 40 channel CB radio party).I am slowly but surely -- and with a typical lack of focus -- gathering a collection of LRE catalog page scans (see link below).
There are limited LRE whole catalog scans available online; the single best resource as I type this is, not surprisingly, at:
www.americanradiohistory.com Consumer Electronics Catalogs page
an incredible resource is https://www.americanradiohistory.com

I kinda miss Radio Shack too. The Radio Shack of 50 years ago.
What I really miss is an audio store where one can talk audio with people and peruse new stuff in person. I'm not in the market for any new gear so the reception is somewhat chilly at the local salon so I don't go in there anymore. Sad that aspect of my hobby is gone.

Yes. Yes they did.

they lost it but most likely, there isn't the base to support them any longer, even if they were like they were so long ago.

Radio Shack entered a slow death spiral when their product emphasis shifted from audio and electronics to phones and radio controlled toys.
John Roach and Bernie Appel retired. The new management did not have the same vision.
