Thanks! But did your DAC have its own remote or manual volume control? I think that's the potential sticking point, related to the output impedance of a DAC having its own volume control.
Follow Ups:
No, my DAC doesn't has a volume control. I've run my streamer directly to the crossover for my amps, using the DAC built into th streamer and using the streamer app to control the volume. I would expect the DAC output to go directly to the output of the streamer box. It worked and sounded fine to me.
I'm currently using the same streamer and DAC in my headphone setup, with a headphone amp after the DAC. The amp has a volume control which I set to 0 when not listening and 3 o'clock when I am listening. I use the streamer app to control the volume and the amp volume setting at less than max to make sure I don't lose my hearing any faster than it is already...
If you have a specific DAC you're interested in you could contact the manufacturer with any questions about the output impedance.

Steve
I have a Camelot Uther Mk3 dac that has an *analog* remote volume control with 0-100 discrete steps plus a "full" setting that bypasses the analog section and runs the volume at full output. The analog section is completely transparent, at least to my ears. It's really useful for precisely matching the dac output volume with my YBA preamp, especially with bombastic source material.of course the dac can function as a full remote control preamp but I prefer the sweetness and gain that I hear through the YBA.
Note that the majority of dacs with remote volume out - especially the less expensive ones - control the volume in the digital domain and thus lose resolution at lower settings.

If you have a DAC volume control that works in the digital domain and the sonic results suffer at lower settings, wouldn't this also be an issue if the DAC were directly driving an amplifier and you listen at lower or moderate volume levels?
Correct, better to avoid digital domain volume controls.
