OK, thanks, that is interesting! And how much does my crappy amplifier detract from the sound? Any recommendations for an upgrade?
Follow Ups:
Your "crappy amplifier" is probably not allowing you to hear the clarity and finesse these great speakers are capable of. I own both the Omen Dirty Weekend in my office system and the Soul Superfly speakers in the large room of my main system. Both these speakers are driven by single ended two stage amplifiers; one's a SE 2A3 and the other a SE 300B of 3W and 5W respectively. They are designed and built by me with the highest quality components.
Unfortunately for the average hobbyist purchasing amplifiers like this is difficult, perhaps the best route is a kit. See below. Note that this kit includes a volume control at the input: this is critical. Adding a preamplifier with its cables will only add noise and distortion.
Oy. Sadly, as my moniker might indicate, building a tube amp is beyond my ability.
But it seems A new amp is in order.
Agreed... the better the amp my Zu DW's see, the better the results. Especially now with the Clarity cap upgrade. However, on more of the modest side in regard to amplification, I've also had superb results with a Latino ST 70 and a Schitt Vidar.
OK, the schiit looks interesting. The only thing I forgot to mention is I do run a 2nd set of speakers (not Zus) upstairs, and this wouldn't accomodate that...

Sounds like you need a second amp then. Or at least some sort of switch box if you don't intend to run them both at the same time. I guess, truth be told, I don't fully understand your dilemma.
