About as enthusiastic a review as I've seen from him!
John, if they are THAT good, I'll let go of my LS-50's. Was considering the 60's but could actually save a few $$ with these new puppies.
In any case will certainly look them up at the Southwest or Montreal show(s)
Follow Ups:
I've heard them a few times. And the bass is incredible, and it is a speaker that is made for Rock listeners especially. The bass can overload a room. I would love to try them, but I think they would be too much for my room and tastes in dynamics and bass. And I like bass! But I can see many, many listeners loving them.
JA One has raved about KEF 50 for the last several years. After eight auditions I still can't like that speaker.
Bill
...he had to plug one or both bass ports to tame a room mode at 30-40 hz or so, which seems to show up in many of the speakers he evaluates in his room. Do the port plugs come with the speakers? Doesn't say.
I find it interesting that whenever JA publishes his in-room freqency response graphs comparing different speakers, they all follow generally the same frequency response pattern. So what is really being measured, the room or the speaker? Rooms really do matter.
In JA's case, he is unable to place speakers close to the wall behind the speakers due to room logistics, so I'm wondering if he's really giving a fair evaluation to some speakers which are intended to be closer to the wall for bass reinforcement. He does mention this when it occurs, but again, rooms matter when it comes to speakers.
