Has anyone tried the JJ Electronics E88CC Gold Pin's in the DAC2.1 ? (those that have not yet gone for output transformers of course) I bought a pair as backup to my very expensive NOS tubes and have been blown away by how good they sound.

Clarkit,
The E88CC JJ does sound good indeed.
But not as good as my ECC88 telefunken in a Dac 3.1x. Sig.
What NOS tubes do you use in your DAC.
Dimitri
My Dac 2.1 Level B Signature will be in shortly as i am not the one building it. I bought 6 Mullard /IEC Nos 7DJ8/PCC88 tubes that are all still in excellent condition, barely used. I plan on using these in the DAC once it is broken in.
Note that the heater voltage of the 7DJ8 is higher than the 6DJ8 !
Without a modification you are listening to a tube that is not completely ON.
Best Regards,
Dimitri
Dimitri,
I havbe used these tubes in a prwamp and amp that use 6DJ8/6922 without issues. I ran this past sevral people and they all tell me I should not havce a problem. I even ran it past Brian at ANK.
I bought these etubes back in 1994 as NOS, never used as nI held on to them in case i ever needed them. My current preamp/amp uses 12ax7 and 12au7 tubes so I am fortunate i kept these tubes. They are Mullard/IEC 7DJ8/PCC88 with full labels.
Philips SQ E188C Holland made. I now keep them for special sessions and use the JJ's day to day - the Philips are better but the JJ's are way better than the Electroharmonix i had with the dac.
Even JJ Electronics's Non gold pin tubes sound every good.
I have tried JJ 12AX7 and 12AT7 regular tubes. SOund very good too!
