Greetings. Noob here, first post. My background is guitar (tubes for years), not hifi. I'm putting a system together on the dirt cheap and I acquired a really clean M-50. My sources are turntable (Hitachi HT-L303), cassette (Teac A-300) and computer DAW.
My budget is $200, so, again, dirt cheap.
So … is there any reason I shouldn't use older SS, like Dynaco PAT, Sony TAE-5450 etc? I'm not concerned about the added distortion (ha, I'm old enough to like it!). I know this stuff typically suffers from old caps.
I'm seeing 70s/80s stuff in my budget, like Yamaha C-40/50/60, NAD 1130, Sansui C-100 etc., usually not real clean.
Is any of this on the right track? What should I be looking for?

...with the Yamaha C-50/60 (skip the 40). The C70 would be even better and if considering an NAD, try to find a 1300.
Good luck !
Dean.

reelsmith's axiom: Its going to be used equipment when I sell it, so it may as well be used equipment when I buy it.
An Adcom might fit the bill...
