thanx al,
but i do not believe rogue is truly keen on giving advices for modding their gear. must have a reason for hiding those caps in shrink foil too.
so asking rogue directly is the very last option for me. but i will consider seriously...

i made it and pealed off the shrink foil! what i found was a 2.7 mF cap:
PPE - MKP - FC
2.7 mF +/- 5% 630 VDC
made by SOLEN, France
rather good stuff. right? modding or not? any suggestions?

Seems to me you're actually downgrading that amp by taking out those Solens!

The Solen caps are OK, but not great.
If you want to try a better cap, there are tons out there, from the Jupiter beeswax and foil caps to cast copper foil caps. If you can't find .27uf, I would go to .33uf which is a common size. 630V rating should not be a problem.
If you put in better caps, I think you will be pleasantly surprised on the sonic improvements. good luck
thanx!
when a "better" cap has too big dimensions to fit in the board could i switch down from 2.7 microfarad to 2.2 microfarad without any sonic disadvantage?

it really depends on the circuit. Going from .27 to .22 may cause you to lose a few hrz in the lower frequencies, but that may be about it.
Just don't put in a lower voltage rating than what is in there. That could be bad news.
And make sure you discharge the power supply caps before you fire up your solding iron. Use a 10k ohm resistor with some aligator clips soldered on the end, to discharge your power supply caps (short across the cap terminals with the resistor). Once the supply caps are discharged, you can get in there safely and work away.
I have used both of these (see links) on some high end VTL and CJ tube amps with excellent results.
here are 2 links for Jupiter.

Before you spend your hard earned cash, you may want to read this link.
good luck.
