Hi,
During tonight's search for a used tube CDP, I stumbled upon something that looks just too interesting to ignore...a Jolida JD-5T tube preamp!
I've been pretty happy with my old Superphon SP100 (seems to get along well with my old Forté 4a amp), but unless anyone here can tell me why I shouldn't jump at this chance to try this nice looking, affordable tube preamp with my particular system, I may just have to give it a try! :)
I'm a bit bothered by the "Jolida War" that seems to be raging between "jolida.net" and "jolida.com" (the unit I'm considering would be coming from "jolida.com" in the US), but in spite of all this, I'm just itching to try this preamp! Unless someone stops me, I'm going to make the purchase tomorrow! :)
Does anyone here use a Jolida JD-5T preamp? If so, could you tell me what you think of it? Thanks!

Sounds like you have the right idea in hanging on to the Superphon until you've had a chance to listen to both for a while.
I've used a Superphon Revelation Dual Mono (with some upgrades) since 1987, until a 2 years ago getting an Audible Illusions Mod 3. The difference between them is not vast. In fact I'd say the Superphon does some things better than the AI.
The AI is sitting on the shelf at the moment, waiting for tubes (again)
The Superphon is back in action, and still sounds great...
I've tried various combos of tubes/SS eguipment the past few years and find myself most happy with a tube pre and SS amp.
Of course it depends much on if they are copecetic with one another, but overall it's a winning combo for my ears.
I don't have experience with the models you mention, but the ol' buyingusedtopossiblyresellatthesamepriceifthingsdon'tpanout and thus
minimizing financial risk is certainly the way to go.
If you're itchin' to try it, give it a go!

This morning, I placed my order for this Jolida JD-5T preamp. :) Now...the anticipation, as I wait for delivery.
My SS amp is an old(er), well regarded (and great sounding!) pure class A amp (Forté 4a is considered a "little sister" design to the class A Threshold amps).
Regarding the "buyingusedtopossiblyresellatthesamepriceifthingsdon'tpanout" you mention... While this is a method I'm usually happy to employ, I haven't seen a used unit of this model for sale, but the new unit price seemed so reasonable (about $350), I just went ahead and ordered a new one. Though I hope--and I have a feeling--I'll like it, I do have options. I'm not going to get rid of my Superphon (even if I love the Jolida, I may just give the Superphon to my sister, who I'm helping slowly put together a modest/decent stereo). If the synergy between my SS amp and the Jolida just doesn't work for some reason, perhaps my sister could use the Jolida. In any event, as mentioned, the price seemed so reasonable, I can hardly imagine a terrible downside to this little spur-of-the-moment adventure into audiotubiness (I think I just coined that word; others are welcome to use it free of charge! :)).

often those carefree spur-of-the-moment decisions (we'll leave "impetuous" for the curmudgeons and the jaded) can be some of the most satisfying.
The fun in this hobby is that on most any (financial) level you can have a good time playing with different equipment/configurations if
you're patient and buy smart - but those spontaneous moves can lead to serendipity and be very pleasing.
Good luck and report back - it's been interesting and informative watching your posts and experiences the past few months on (re)building your
audio system and engaging in these boards with your progress.

Just wait until you try tube swapping...Your head will explode. :-)
I doubt there will be a problem matching the pre to your amp. We'll see I guess. Keep us posted.

In the late eighties I sold my Superphon " Basic " ( Stan's first pre-amp ) and bought a used Audible Illusions 2B. It's been tubes ever since for me. That said, I know nothing about the Jolida pre, but something tells me you won't be disappointed.
