I would liked to have posted my thanks in a meaningful order, but I was so enthused to check the photos, and then with the excitement confirmation of my suspicions about the marks, I complexly missed thinking about what I was doing with the posting format..
for the longest time, I figured they were available for sale because that record store sold a lot of classic rock , and I was the only guy who wanted the old jazz stuff. I even forgot I owned some of the old recordings, , like the Joe Williams record with the Basie band that is unavailable new, and that I wanted to buy for years.. turns out I have two original records featuring different songs from those guys, plus one from a jazz festival where he sings as a guest with the band.
the liner notes on that one speaks of the band transitioning from "head arrangements" where the arrangements were made up as the melody was preformed, to written structures of new tunes, and leaving the old favorites behind to modernize the music.
I was in that store one time when one skater kid was talking to his buddy while holding a Beatles album , saying that his brother said that these guys were good. his buddy was unimpressed and kept looking.
