good points, but....

you make very good points, but I want to clairfy a little on the black hole and other multi-material pads. while the black hole is intended for mounting inside a speaker it has two functions, one is the absorbtion of waves in the interior, the other is dampening cabinet vibrations. there are other multilayer items out there with adhesive backing as well besides the black hole (and perhaps they are better, I like slightly less "foamy" materials for these uses, some are availble with viscous plastic and metal layers included). I do feel that the multi material approach has the best chance of broad frequency absorption. in a constrained layer usage I think that some compression of the varied materials is actually beneficial hence the "constrained" part. regards, tony
