I think best results for the middle layer will come from multimaterial pads, allowing for maximum absorption of a variety of frequencies. have you looked at "black hole pad"? of some of the other multipayer pads? try www.partsexpress.com and other speakerbuilding sites some have metal/rubber/foam combos that can really dampen. I have a set of high density polyethylene cutting boards with 1/2" thick sorbothane sheets between them for my amps. works great. sheet sorbothane can be bought at www.mcmaster.com. regards and good luck, tony
