Good for Marantz, Anthem skimped and saved a few bucks on a nicely made unit by leaving the transformer out...hard to fathom considering the fairly high quality of all the circuit components.So this isn't your problem... Yes, those wires should be short, and preferably 75 ohm coax for any length, but I don't think the way it is would prevent the circuit from working, though I've never tried it. (Have you considered mounting the transformer right at the CS842x, and running coax from the tran to the input jack, if that's easier?) This is one of those projects where a scope really helps. Have you tried your circuit without the tran, just a 75 ohm terminating resistor and small series cap, plus a cap on RXN to ground? IOW, to make sure the tran input is not the issue, but something else in the circuit config. What's in your phase lock filter circuit, and is your clock good?
