The CD-67 digital volume control will work with an external DAC. It is not the best deal to do so, though, as it removes bits from the samples, compressing dynamic range, and lowering resolution. The 100K may be around right for the marantz output, though likely not the DI/O, but I'm not sure. it might take a touch more. If you want a good attenuator, you could build a transformer based volume control, using sowter devices www.sowter.com. This would allow minimization of cable capacitance effects.
