I'm currently running my Marantz CD-67se directly into my Wave 8 monos and using the digital volume control. This is working okay except for high levels of noise of from the cdp's analog output stage essentially running "full-bore" all the time. The only other problem is that this limits my ability to add a dac since I lose the volume control. At $122 I'd like to try a DI/O.
I happen to have an Alps Black Beauty 100K pot currently unused. Is it worth my time, effort, and $$ to build it into a box with a set of connectors? Also, if the Marantz player puts out 2V and the Wave 8s go full power on .5V will the 100K pot provide enough attenuation, even if I use the DI/O with it's huge 7V output? Lastly, should I place my box closer to the cdp or the amps?
