Yeah, I tried that before...

But with a turntable. There are several problems; a couple that you didn't mention. Round balloons tend to roll, kinda like trying to balance something on a couple of basketballs-any lateral force sets them rolling. This can be solved by using the long thin balloons. Do NOT use the balloons used to make baloon animals, but go to your local party store and try to find the biggest long and thin balloons you can. I ended up getting ones that were about 2" wide and 12" long UNinflated. Just fill these up as much as you need, and place them under the component so it won't roll (two facing this way: || And two facing this way: _ _ . It's hard to describe, but you'll figure it out).

The more the balloon is inflated, the more air it will leak (since air leaks through the rubber), so a larger balloon would be better (starting to sound like innertubes, huh?), but it still will leak. After a while the balloon will simply dry rot, and could cause the component to drop.

Balloons also tend to pick up airborne vibrations well, and this could cause problems. Balloons are not very stable (although using the long thin ones like I said makes it about a bajillion times more stable than round ones), and IMO, are not good for CD players.

Just my opinion...take care!

Neil
