Balloons under CD Transport!!

I am currently waiting to sort out some "roller ball" type isolators for my CD transport - a kind soul who frequents the AA has offered me some of his own manufacture.

But in the meantime...

The other day I found some of my kids tiny "water bomb" balloons lying around and thought "hmm I wonder what these would do under my CD player"!

Now I am already convinced of isolation devices and having used all manner of things available commercially (squashy, hard, pointed etc.). But I have never used anything that attempts to completely isolate a component. So I partly blew up three of these balloons and put them under my Meridian CD transport, fired it up and.. Amazing...couldn't believe the difference - separation between instruments, ambience, less splash and overhand on cymbals etc. etc.

But the biggest suprise?

What I thought was a serious room resonance, apparent in the bass, has just all but dissappeared! Bass is much cleaner, and now felt more than heard (the snare, kick and floor toms on Eva Cassidy Live at Blues Alley - wow!).

So, if you are a doubter, just give it a try and for a few pennies (haven't told my son about his balloons yet!) you can't go wrong.

What I don't know is whether you could use something like this long term.

Anyone know a way to stop balloons going down over time?

Regards,

Jonathan
