I regularly use a desoldering braid at work and have tried several brands. Without question the one that I like the best is called "Chem-Wick Lite". It seems to be the most absorbent. The braid is impregnated with a dry flux and I guess the flux in this brand works the best (for me anyway). You can buy it in different lengths and widths to meet your needs. Rather than throw-away a brand that I didn't like, I have enhanced the absorbency of some brands by smearing a paste flux (rosin type) on the braid before using. This will, however, leave a lot of flux residue on the board that will need to be removed.
