I just picked up a couple of 10uf MKL's after reading this thread.
I want to try to use them to replace some tantalum caps in a Hafler DH101 preamp. Are these MKL caps polarized? They will be positioned between the output of a volume control (variable resistor) and the base of a transistor. The schematic doesn't show polarity on the cap and I'm not very knowledgeable with electronics board level so any information would be greatly appreciated if anyone can help with my question.
Some have said to just use a bipolar Nichicon electrolytic, but others have recommended using a polypropylene film cap. I did pick up some polypropylene film caps from Mouser thinking they were non metalized. Then I downloaded the data sheet and they are indeed metalized.
How much of a difference will "metalized" make to the sonics.
The existing film caps actually sounded very good but I threw them out when I stripped the board.
Thanks in advance !
