I've been toying around with the idea of building my own audio rack
I currently use a rack made of Ikea LACK coffee tables with shortened legs. The rigid and light honeycomb material "sounds" very good. But it also looks cheap as hell and as I'm moving more forward into adulthood (lol) I feel aesthetics are getting more and more important.
So the idea behind this new rack is to have the frame custom built by a company that usually makes aquarium stands. But I was still hesitating as to which material I should use for the shelves. I considered Plexiglass but it is way too expensive and probably wouldn't sound good.
A trip to Ikea last week reminded me of the large LÄMPLIG butcher blocks; they would IMHO provide perfect shelving. Size is ideal as well. They would be coupled to the frame through small spikes.
Bamboo color however would be a terrible match for the rest of my furniture so I will have to color the wood with some varnish or lazure.
