isolation transformer grounding issue

I have a smallish toroidal isolation transformer that I have been using for a few months. I got it used for cheap, but it seems to work fairly well for the limited demands I make of it. I have a couple of power strip/surge protector type devices that tell me that they are not grounded when plugged into the isolation transformer. I have checked all the grounding connections inside the box and have tried a different power cord on the transformer. Even using a two prong adapter on the strip and running a dedicated ground to the wall did not alleviate the problem. So now I am puzzled. I am ignorant about transformers and how they are grounded. Is this transformer likely damaged? Beyond repair? I listen to vinyl so grounding is a major issue. It does improve the sound and lowers noise, but I would like it to be properly grounded, and frankly am puzzled as to why not even a dedicated ground seems to ground a power strip which tells me it is grounded when plugged into that same outlet.

thanks
