The AP/C-004 feature a polycarbonate shell, with no metal involved so it's not a shielded connector. I really don't know why they are called Armored, since they are no more heavy duty than the original 004s. The clamping mechanism of the Armored Series is superior, and keeps the power cable centered which is very nice. Although the design of the connector body is new, I don't know if it is superior the the original 004.A built two Acoustic Revive Power Standard-tripleC8800 power cords terminated with gold Oyaide 079 AC connectors, and find them to sound very good but a bit too euphonic sounding for anything other than as power cords placed between an AC outlet installed at the wall, and two power line conditioners in my computer workstation system.
