I'd get a good solder iron. I struggled for a while with a 30 watt iron, got a lot of cold solder joints in the process. 40 watts works a lot better, large masses of metal (like 12ga wire to big spades) are now "no problem."I second the vote for Cardas solder, available from Michael Percy and others.
