Barry's Isolation Platforms - marble isn't hard enough

I've been using Barry's isolation platforms for a while and I love them. They've made a huge difference in the sound (and video) of my system. I have them under my speakers, amps, DAC, and TV. I'm using Rollerblock Jr. HDSE cups, marble tiles, 3/4" plywood, and tungsten carbide balls. A few days ago I took all of it apart to stain the plywood black, and I discovered that under the heavy TV and heavy amps, the balls pierced the marble tile and were covered in white powder. I contacted Barry and this hasn't happened to him, even under heavy objects. I think that's because he doesn't use tungsten carbide balls, he uses chrome steel instead which isn't as hard.

I did some reading on the Mohs Hardness Scale and I'd like to replace the marble tiles with something harder. I understand that I could end up with a resonance problem, but I'd like to try anyway. My marble tiles do ring if I knock on them and the plywood on top of the tiles is there to prevent that from being a problem.

I'm thinking unglazed porcelain and hardened steel might be good experiments. What do you guys think?
