RE: Black sharpie works just as well as special green pens

Today thats probably true since most transports use either red or blue lasers. But in the early days when all CD players used infrared lasers it was NOT true. Many black inks were opaque to visible light but were fairly transparent to infrared. The special green ink in question was designed to be opaque to infrared.

So today a black marker is actually probably better than the official green ink, unless you are using one of the old players with an infrared laser.
