RE: It's kinda odd...

Earlier this evening I looked at the WBT site and some of their connectors are specified as Zo=16ohms and some Zo=75ohms. I suppose it could be true, but 16 ohms seems awfully low. Decades ago I used an RCA plug at a GHz and measured it's Zo and I recollect it was in the high 60s, maybe 68ohms. But I'm sure it depends upon the style and details.

One thing about using phono connectors is that how you use them makes a difference. For instance if you use a small diameter coax you can extend the shield of the coax to where it stops just short of the center pin and on the socket side if you use an open style socket you can pick it up within about 1/4" on the chassis end making a pretty short blivit in the line.

Naturally using a constant impedance connector system like BNC is the best but you can't just use it willy nilly. Someone posted pictures the other day of using a couple of hook-up wires inside running willy-nilly from the BNC socket to the PCB. That's probably a lot worse than thoughtfully using an RCA. With a BNC you've got to us a socket that accepts coax or directly connect it to a stripline if you really don't want reflections.

Audio's a lot like life, it's not so much what you got as how you use it.

Rick
