Tweakers' Asylum Tweaks for systems, rooms and Do It Yourself (DIY) help. FAQ. |

Unless you have convinced yourself that isolation is irrelevant, I would strongly urge you to take a listen to these in your home. They have a dramatic effect which will be immediately evident. There are experiments to run using them as there are two ways to use them. They are iron cups about the size of a small tea cup with round bottoms. With two of the three MIGs up is the "ambient soundstage," which is a good description as you can hear well into the audience in live recordings and well into the orchestra in symphonic recordings. With two of the three MIGs down is the "pin point soundstage. Actually I think this should be called the hyper detailed version. You will hear things that you have never heard before on the recording, such as fingering, coughing, humming, talking among performers, etc. Things that you might hear were you standing where the mics are.
I have yet to decide about MIGs under my amp. This is the only place where "pin point" is recommended. I am not sure I even like it there.
Do these cup of iron ring; you bet ya! Do they sound like they ring while under equipment? No. Am I impressed? Yes, but I reserve the right to change my mind. What do I have under them? I am using the same StillPoint rack that SR used in their demonstration at CES, which I have found to be quite superior at least in my system. Also I have used the MIGs on a StillPoints component stands with a Mana glass shelf on top and the same glass shelf on a Mana stand. I have not tried wooden shelves, etc.
At $150 per set of three, they are affordable. You may not like them, but you will hear their impact.
