DR, are they just for cosmetics or will you be leaving them on for non critical listening?
I am making a set of faux covers for my 1.6QRs to kind of hide them when we have formal gatherings or parties. They will also offer added protection to the drivers via material thickness. (rogue rug rats that sneak into the room when I'm not looking).
My Mags are still factory covered but these front covers are being made of maple 1x1 stock to full height and width. Corners are reinforced with triangular mdf blocks for glue and screw support. At the top of the covers I just picked up light weight flat stock aluminum and bent 2 pieces into an upside down U shape. This will attach to the top back cover frame and simply slip over the top of the Maggies. Cover material is a really cool looking, highly ornate patterned cloth from a local fabric store. Total cost is about $50.
Same cloth as used on some rear acoustic panels I made. see pic.
