Hi.
It should be OK to use a digital switching PS with 5V 2A rating. You can get an old camcorder battery charger of same rating cheapie from a pawn shop. That's what I am using to pre-heat the DC tube heaters of my phono preamp before my music session when the tube heaters are DC heated by an outboard rechargeable cell.
Make sure you snap a RFI ring suppressor on the power cord & the DC out cord of the switching PS.
