Try installing a 0.1 cap infront of the diodes. The cap goes + to - and the 12 volt ac lines. The Dacmagic most likely has nothing in front of the diodes.
A larger toroid MAY improve things, but may not. Plus most power transformers are rated at full load, so a larger 12 volt tranformer will output a higher voltage when lightly loaded.
