RE: Glasse Audio Desk Systeme

zanash-

EXCELLENT! GREAT TEST! Best of all, it backs up my subjective findings to the "T". Black seems by far the best, especially opaque markers, followed closely by darker green opaque paint markers by Uchida (which probably is out of business by now!) Super cheap and ultra dangerous (xylene fumes!), these Uchida opaque paint markers not only kick butt, they also seal the ablated edge, thereby hopefully obviating any problem from exposure to the corrosive evil enemy: air.

Like Ted, I too am distinctly adverse to cutting my SACDs, although Ric Schultz over at EVS claims it does make a diffference. I haven't tried it yet, but might on any discs I don't really care for.

This was a great thread for anyone who wants to modify their CDs or SACDs via cutting and then painting the edges. Also remember to paint ALL areas that are clear, top and bottom (and for the ultimate tweak, sand with fine grit paper, then clean thoroughly BEFORE painting for absolutely STELLAR PERFORMANCE!) Take a look at Ric's website for more details, in the "Tweaks" sections. (I believe Ric's site is tweakaudio.com.) Sanding CDs: a new national pastime!

Check it out! It REALLY works! Just be VERY careful when sanding; one slip and it's 'adios muchachos' to your disc! And make sure you blow off all residue before painting. Use an air brush or other powered air source. Blowing on the disc just gets it wet with condensation, and wiping is a sure way to scratch the hell out of your CD. But if you are careful in sanding, the result is phenomenal, and it multiplies the effects of cutting and painting. You will be very happy with the result. Side-by-sides with identical discs, one sanded, one not, have without exception resulted in the sanded disc annihilating the performance of the un-sanded disc. Every parameter of performance will be enhanced, with no downside, meaning this is an absolute reduction in distortion, not just a euphonic distortion itself that sounds good in some systems, and not others. Sanding has universally resulted in great results in everyone's system I have A-B'd them in. (The disc I use for 'sanding demos' is Mapleshade's release of Asante's "Ohene Kesee A Ebin". Talk about dynamics! Sacred Bovines! What a disc! And sanded, it's a real knock out.

HAPPY NEW YEAR and HAPPY LISTENING!!
