RE: Any options for reflection panels instead?

Aside from Davids comments, reflection panels, either flat or curved, need to be applied in a very room specific way, at very precise locations and angles. Even with photo's of 1/2 the room and a verbal description of the rest, it would be hard to try and apply such panels without a more detailed knowledge of the room, and a lot of analysis effort.

I can do first order acoustics in my head, but 2nd order and higher require more serious calculations and really good modeling, both of which take a lot of time and effort and an investment in the tools and experience to use them.

In general, for James's room, placing broadband diffusors at points along the side which has open areas where the opposite side has a solid wall and no absorbers can help balance the acoustic symmetry of the room, as well as break up reverberant residue from the extra space represented by the open areas off the side walls.

In an untreated room with average raw acoustics (not a crude echo chamber), a single pair of 2' by 2' 3/4" thick wooden reflection panels at the 1st reflection points, with the rear portion away from the wall causing a 30-40 degree angle with the wall, can provide an amazing _change_ to the overall presentation, but it is not necessarily a neutral or wholly positive one, especially compared to even a minimum of proper broadband and neutral treatment.
