I posted a reply but it seems to have vanished.
Somehow I had it that many of the newer, super fast rectifiers do not handle any over voltages very well, and, if I am wrong please correct me. I would run a minimum of a 1000 volt rated Cree and preferably a 1200 volt, just for reliability purposes. They are more expensive, but in the long run, it's worth it. I believe I had some failures with Hexfreds when running them at their limits.
That's why I questioned the use of the diodes....
