Tweakers' Asylum Tweaks for systems, rooms and Do It Yourself (DIY) help. FAQ. |
|
I've seen a thread like this is years past and figured I's start a new one. What tweaks or upgrades in the last twelve months have been the most positive for you?Mine:
1) Oyaide SWO-XXX and SWO-DX outlets - Hands down the best tweak I have tried. Did more for the visuals and audio in my HT rig than my PLC, power cord, interconnect, or isolation devices period. I reported that I did not see any visual improvements after three days, well three weeks of break in have yielded dramatic results. I'm getting ready to give Cryo-Parts more of my hard earned dough.
2) Herbies Grungebuster2 CD Mats - Picked these up for five dollars a piece on the introductory deal and have not regretted it one bit. I mainly use these everytime I put in a DVD. It brings all the little details to the forefront. I'm constantly hearing new details or sound effects in my movies.
3) Quicksilver Contact Enhancer - Easily the best tweak of the year to boost visual clarity and make the colors displayed by my TV set much more vivid and accurate. Sort of like a minor calibration in a bottle. Was so-so on the audio side but apparently QS Gold has fixed that. I treated everything with the QS. Even all the connection inside my PLC. Beats the pants off SST.
4) Bybee Quantum Purifiers (Large) - I just installed these at the outlets on the hot and neutral legs of the digital video circuit in my PLC. While not delivering visual benefits as I had hoped, the audio enhancement was astounding. Low level details were brought forward and were much more easily heard. The overall volume seemed to increase as well. My favorite part was the job it did on midrange. Specifically male vocals or speech. It used to sound a little lean. The Bybees enhanced those frequencies. The result was a rich and full presentation. It just has to heard to best describe it.
5) Revelation Audio Precept II Power Cords - I tend to like my music on the cool side so often I choose silver wiring when I can. When I saw a solid core, cryo'd silver power cord with Furutech ends and ERS cloth incorportaion for $400 I lept out and bought two. I plugged one into my CDP and the other into my PS2. This cord does such a great job of enhancing low level detail (I used that a lot) while enhancing the entire range of upper frequencies without getting shrill or lean. Bass response was much more accurate as well. I've owned power cords from some well respected manufacturers and I like these the best. It helped sharpen visuals from my PS2 about 5-10% as well. I'll definately look up Revelation first when I need a new PC.
6) Cryoing my Component Video cable - Lastly, I sent my Monster PS2 component video cable to Lee at Cryo-Freeze for treatment Since hooking the cord back into the system, the fragile balance between vivid colors and sharpness are gone. I can cranks the color setting for the vivid color and not sacrifice clarity or sharpness. A wise $35 spent!
