If you use the VH Audio wire over Teflon tubing, it is rather easy to make very solid terminations. I simply put a one inch long wooden dowel into the end of the tubing so that the tubing would not collapse when the set-screw is tightened down. You just need to make certain the set-screw is between your wires and not right on top of one. This is not too difficult.Once you get into more compliant core materials, such as cotton rope, I can see how things can get very fragile and complicated.
I have used Chris's basic recipe and have also tried some variations of my own. The very nice thing about the VH Audio wire is that it’s already covered with cotton, although it is a little challenging to strip the cotton back for soldering. The RAM cotton sleeves are very useful if you want to use different gauge or a different kind of wire material.
