I have been using an adapter on my B&D which I purchased from Sears, quite a number of years (10+) ago. The adapter replaces the base on the router and allows the user to either route along an edge or in a circle. To route in a circle the straight edge adapter is replaced with a pin. A hole is drilled at the center of the circle for the pin and the router and bit rotate around this. This has worked for me.
From what I have viewed regarding the Jasper Jig it appears that it would do the job somewhat more elegantly than the adapter I write of above.
As to the bit use the smallest flute/mortise bit you can find and route incrementally. Make three or four passes to complete the cut out rather than trying to do it all in one pass. Each pass should be successively deeper in depth. This minimizes the load on the bit and the router motor.
I hope this helps.
