Having experimented with 6172s (bypassed with a pair of black gate 0.47uF NX HiQ caps in super e cap combination) at least a couple of years ago, I've never felt the need to go back. I'm very happy with my preamp. It's more exciting and relaxed at the same time, with no listener fatigue. About a year ago I did the same thing to a DAB tuner with good results.
