OK - the text you quoted with the comment about a time of 0.54 seconds being reasonable appears in that calculation example in the 3rd edition as well - on pabe 132. Thanks for the reference - I just looked to see if there was a similar section and then looked that section up.I have no idea why Everest included that statement and it is now too late to ask him as he died recently. I can only say it is at odds with what he says in a number of other places and my understanding of the rest of the book leads me to favour what is said elsewhere, which is fairly consistent, over this one particular statement which is not consistent with what is said elsewhere.
