What you want is NO reverberation at all presumably.
I think its your idea that argues against itself.
If you add room reverb to whatever is on the recording you will not get at the "truth" of the recording.
Of course no absolute will ever be achieved.
But the reverb in the room is always to negative if you aim to reproduce exactly the so called ambience of the recording.
So much of which is artificial to begin with.
Which is why I think this chase is a red herring.
