No! Van den Hul does not use the AM-S wire, but his wire is the same diameter.....Van den Hul uses a 6N silver wire, IIRC, the AM Systems is only 4N. BTW, Cryoing the wire certainly helps.
Actually in speaking to some wire manufacturers, 6N wire is akin to quarter pound before cooking in the fast foods business. Most companies buy the 6N ingots from Nippon Mining in a sealed vacuum packed package and then draw the ingot to the required diameter. As the dies are not likely to be scrupulously clean, and since lubrication agents are often employed in the pulling of wire, the 6N composition is compromised. You'd be lucky to get 5N purity and most probably 4N since many audio companies have the pulling outsourced.
The Acoustic Zen and Harmonic Technologies companies claim that they extrude the 6N wire in their finished size, so they may actually have the highest purity that consumers may obtain.
