Hello FredYou might want to post this over on Room acoustics ! they really know their stuff over there.
My concurns are first the listen postion you are efectivly in a holmhertz filter. The resonant length of the alcove will play a big part in what you here, it will also isolate you from some of the other room effects room reflections etc. But these reflections would also produce a muddled sound stage.
Second room nodes: I would be tempted to put some acoustic panels on both the vertical end walls and maybe some on the diagonals of the ceiling, corner traps etc.But what do you feel is the problem ?
Does moving the listen position out of the alcove make a differance ?
