Rope caulking is used for caulking (filling the gaps!)in decks and planking on wooden boats. The original material is hard to find as it has indeed been banned by the EU (possibly because it contains lead!!). But it is still available from a ships chandlers in Gravesend Kent known as Starbucks (cant remember the phone No. though!) The modern alternative is a product known as "Sikoflex" this should be available from better builders merchants. I have used both on my boat decks and they seem very similar - except Sikoflex comes in a tube and doesn't kill you!!. Hope this helps, if you have no success I could probably send some to you.Revoe
