that these cables have a chance to compete with traditional technologies. After all they are really active devices and would affect the sound on par with an active preamp.My knowledge of lasers has seriously deteriorated over the last 20 years but from what i remember expecting >100db dynamic range with low distortion by just modulating the intensity is a bit optimistic. Maybe i'm wrong.
All components to assemble such cables should be available off the shelf.
