Re: i'm talking about putting the amp stand, feet & all, sitting atop another shelf?

My feeling is quite possibly not.

I've never tried doing anything like that so I'm going on intuition from a slightly similar attempt when I was heavily into my DIY isolation stage some years ago and I tended to subscribe to the "nothing succeeds like excess" approach, ie if one thing is good, 2 different things is better, 3 different things will beat that, and so on - most definitely ad infinitum. Some of the things I ended up with were simply huge which is what happens when you start adding one approach to another.

Each addition definitely produced a noticeable change. In the end, however, I came to realise that most of those changes had not been improvements and that things sounded better if I kept everything a hell of a lot simpler. In particular I found using 2 different soft or spring layers particularly problematical as they often seemed to work against each other in the end.

With something like a Monaco amp stand, I think sitting it on top of something else may go a bit the same way. Even though the other thing may be reasonable, it can have it's own resonances and the amount of vibration transmitted at resonance is always not only at the maximum level but also considerably - often many times higher - than the level of vibration entering that system. After all, that's what resonance is. The Monaco does an extremely good job of not passing vibration from the floor to components, and also of minimising/eliminating resonance in itself but if you sit it on something that has a strong resonance of it's own, you may well be passing the Monaco a lot more energy at that frequency than would be passed from the floor. While the Monaco will do a good job of reducing that energy, some still gets through (nothing is ever perfect) and passing it more energy at a particular frequency will mean more energy will get passed through at that frequency. My feeling is that it's much better to use things as intended.

I think you'd be better off simply replacing shelves - it's cheaper for a start since you don't have to buy the amp stand rack part and that makes shelf replacement with the Formula shelves a viable option economically if money is an issue, and the GPA stuff is costly, though I do think it's cost effective and gives good value.

I think you'd need very large existing shelves too if you wanted to sit a Monaco amp stand on an existing shelf.
