Lesson - Never overlook the obvious and a safety lesson!!

Well, after disassembling the CDP and finding nothing amiss, I was all set to plug it back into so start checking voltages. Imagine my surprise when I noticed a "serration" in the power cord.

It seems that the power cord had fallen into the electric base-board heater and the hot "fins" had melted through the insulation, causing the resulting flash, circuit breaker trip and missing pieces of power cord!

Maybe now is a good time to try some of those "exotic" power cords and add an IEC connector...

Good news is that the damage is readily repairable and I didn't burn down the house. I'll sure be more careful next time.

(I knew it had something to do with the heat...)
