With all the extremes we often go to looking for the best sound, the AC line is one more component of the package so I guess it can't be overlooked. We install expensive high-tech power cords to our components but the wiring from the AC outlet to the AC panel is often the cheapest that was available when the house was constructed. Several years ago on a weekend when I was bored, I ran a separate AC line from my panel to my hifi. I could hear no improvement.
In a practical sense though, I think the power supplies on modern equipment are pretty good and can cope with less than ideal input. If there are appliances on the same AC circuit, then it may be necessary to connect to another circuit or run a dedicated line. Vintage equipment in stock form may require a cleaner AC line particularly if it is still equipped with a narrow gauge 2 conductor power cord.
