based on Jon Risch's instructions and I'm very pleased. In balanced configuration it's rated at 1.5KVA and there is no dynamic compression. Initially I had my Odyssey Stratos and NAD C160 pre plugged into it and every thing sounded good. Improvements were similiar to what you describe. Then I read somewhere that power amps can be a source of AC noise, so into the Signal I plugged a Topaz Line 2 conditioner (rated at 1kva) and into this the NAD.An even better, more dramatic improvement. Just Much more of the same: Incredibly smooth, and realistic. It just makes me want to keep the CDP going.
I've also got a Risch wired Signal DU1/2 with only the CDP connected, and a Xentek isolation transformer with the powered sub connected. Both the aforementioned transformers are connected to a Topaz ferroresonant line conditioner (one of those that does not have a loud hum).
So basically each component has it's own AC filter. This has been far and away the best single tweak I've done. And I've been busy here!
