Re: Is L/R channel imbalance pretty common?

Most 'standard' volume controls, especially those used in commercial gear, have very poor tracking beween channels and many are 2-3 dB and more apart between channels. The solution : build your own volume control using 1% metal film resistors or some of the premium Japanese Carbon Film R's. DO NOT build a so-called "Ladder" attenuator because when you are at a low volume setting all or most of the R's are IN SERIES which degrades sonics noticeably (too many soldered joints, length of leads, etc.) If you possibly can install the new attenuators as close to the unit's pcb (at the rear of the enclosure) to eliminate running the signal from the input jacks at thr rear of the enclosure all the way to the front of the enclosure and then backagain. Signal lines shoud be as short as possible and WILL pick up a lot of interference on the way from back to the front of the enclosure back again. Use saft extensions to connect with the volume control knob on the front of the enclosure.

Happy Listening !
