Tweaks for systems, rooms and Do It Yourself (DIY) help. FAQ.

Well, more like 3-4 drops in a dinky vial...

When I got my first order from Michael Percy which was three vials in the mail and looked at what I got, I was like "you have got to be sh*ting me"...lol The three vials and a bunch of swabs set me back three hundred and forty something bucks. I will agree that Musicoat seems very expensive and it did dawn on me that it could be BS before I purchased my first order. That is why I only purchased three vials first to see if the stuff was all that. There were three very respected companies that offered as part of their modding program for their gear treatment with Musicoat. That is what kicked me over the fence to try the stuff. Steve McCormick is one of the manufacturers that come to mind that offer the service.

I have debated several times whether I should post a review on the Musicoat product. Because of the scepticism (like this thread) that I have not posted a review. I have no affiliation what so ever to TRT-Wonder or the success of Musicoat. Possibly due to the price of Musicoat it is hard to see the value of the product. This is unfortunate because this stuff in my opinion has a price to performance ratio that "is off the charts".

The majority of my gear is Proceed (made by Madrigal Audio Labs), all SS. I liked my gear before the Musicoat treatments. After the Musicoat treatments I am very impressed with the gear. I would never of known what my gear could do sonically if I did not try the Musicoat.

I do not know what this stuff is made of or how it actually works. What I do know is that what is claimed by TRT-Wonder that is to be expected after treatment is about 95% or so the results I got. There were no negative effects from the treatments, only positive. The treatment can be undone. I removed the original treatment on a Proceed AMP2 amplifier. I was down about $115 bucks though when I un-did the Musicoat treatment.

Just to be clear because this post must seem like I sell the stuff (and I don't), I try alot of tweaks. I am a on or off kind of person when it comes to tweaks or most things. When I try a tweak I will ask myself the following:

1) Do I hear a difference?
2) Do I like the change or what I hear?
3) Was the tweak or modd or whatever I am evaluating bring enough value to justify the cost and time?

My feelings for the different components in my system varied after treatment with the Musicoat. For the most part I answered the above questions while evaluating each component after treatment as follows:

1) Yes
2) Loved it
3) Worth every cent and yes to the time

As a side, before treating the component with Musicoat I would first lightly dampen a cotton Q-tip with rubbing alcohol and wipe away any dust or dirt from the electronic parts inside the component. I have only used the Musicoat on my gear, obviously YMMV if you have different gear. These are the components I treated with Musicoat and the amount of vials required for treatment:

Proceed AVP (pre-amp): 2 vials
Proceed AMP2 (2 channel amp): 1 vial
Proceed CDD (transport): 3/4 vial
Proceed DAP (DAC): 1 1/4 vial
Samsung 840 DVD player (used as a DVD transport): 1 vial
Citation 7.1 (4 channel amp): 1 vial
Mills resisters inside outboard Xovers (9 resisters total): 1/8 vial

If you own SS gear, do yourself a favor and get yourself 2 vials of this stuff for Xmas from Michael Percy. Or better yet, group buy directly from TRT-Wonder, it is cheaper if 12 kits are purchased (33% off). Oh yes, in this post I am refering to the Musicoat Deluxe Kit, not the normal Musicoat.
