You obviously either flunked physics or didn't show up for the course. When you reduce the contact area of an item from that which it rests upon you are REDUCING the area of coupling, NOT increasing it. The idea of the spikes are to REDUCE the area that can feed vibration into the unit, thereby DE-COUPLING it from it's shelf, floor, etc. Less (contact area) is NOT more.
